Is there a reason why the snow cover on the 432-truck lock card reader is missing?
Repairs were needed for that particular reader. The cover will be replaced shortly.
The machine has been operating at ~ 96.5% availability. The mean time between faults is currently 25.71 hours. We are still investigating a problem with beam motion at Sector 7 synchronized with the operation of the EMW. Beginning Monday, February 26, a 48-hour studies/machine intervention will take place at 0800 hours.
John Galayda has resigned from APS to take up a position as director of the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) project at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The LCLS will be the forerunner to the next generation x-ray source. We wish John the best of luck in his new endeavor.
Time Change for CAT Chat - Beginning Friday, March 23, a user seminar will take place here in conference room A1100, from 12:00-1:00 pm. CAT Chat will follow the seminar starting around 1:15. Flyers will be posted along with announcements with further details.
A Cyber Security management briefing took place today, Friday, February 23. A cyber security audit will take place within a few weeks. We will keep you informed as we hear more details. An incident occurred where a CAT user was followed through the lab by a van with three men. ANL security has identified these men and action will be taken. Everyone should be informed that if they feel threatened when driving into or through the site, they should proceed to a security gate immediately and inform the security guards.
