Information and Follow-up Items
1. With the clean up taking place, I need to have the blue scrap metal bucket in front of my user shop emptied. Who should I contact?
We will contact the building manager to arrange that the scrap metal bins be emptied on a more frequent basis.
2. During the stormy weather this week, a tornado watch was announced. Can you clarify what the protocol is regarding shutters and/or beam in the event that the watch is upgraded to a warning?
If a tornado watch (which means conditions are favorable for tornado formation) is announced, users should be aware that the weather situation might increase in intensity and lead to a tornado warning. Once a tornado is sighted in the area, a tornado warning is announced, the shutters are closed, but the beam is allowed to remain in the storage ring. The users must immediately seek shelter in a designated shelter area.
User Operations
Availability for the run has been at 95%. A few faults occurred this past week; the only fault of any length was a four-hour fault on 2/7/99 due to a power supply failure.
At 8:00 a.m. on 2/15/99 a two-day machine studies period will begin. The beam will revert to user operations at 8:00 a.m. on 2/17/99. Shielding verification is scheduled during the studies shift on 2/23/99, and the low current beam will be available to the users.
Gateway debugging and tests are continuing. By the end of March, each CAT should have a dedicated direct fiberlink to the subnet, which includes time and name servers and the PV gateway. The gateway has had improved stability so far this run.
