APS Compton Award Established

In conjunction with the APS Users Organization, the Advanced Photon Source has established the APS Compton Award to recognize an important technical or scientific achievement at or beneficial to the APS. A certificate plus $2500 will be presented at the Seventh APS Users Meeting, which will be held in conjunction with SRI `95 during the week of October 16-20, 1995.

The Call for Nominations issued in April generated a remarkable response. Nominations are currently been reviewed by the selection committee consisting of Howard Birnbaum (chair), Jens Als-Nielsen, Wayne Hendrickson, Michael Knotek, and Roger Pynn.

Nominations include a brief description of the work for which the award is proposed, a statement describing the significance and impact of the work, and a short proposed citation. Supporting letters from two individuals qualified to assess the value of the nominated work are also required. The winner will be notified in advance; the formal announcement and presentation of the award is scheduled for October 18, 1995.
