Beamline 18-ID-D: Sector 18 - Insertion Device Beamline
BIO-CAT
Life Sciences
Description
The Biophysics Collaborative Access Team is an NIH-supported research center for the study of the structure and dynamics of partially ordered biological systems. Beamline 18-ID offers particular strengths in small angle solution scattering from macromolecules, small- and wide-angle fiber diffraction, and micro-emission and absorption imaging (5 micron spatial resolution). Solution scattering experiments, which provide data about macromolecular conformation in solution, can be done in static or time-resolved modes with millisecond-scale time resolution. Fiber diffraction patterns of exceptional quality can be obtained from complex, weakly diffracting biological systems in very short exposure times. The beamline has independent horizontal and vertical focusing and houses two independent monochromators. Source demagnification of up to 11:1 vertically and 7:1 horizontally can be attained, and rapid energy scans of 1 keV in 5 to 15 seconds are routinely available
