Beamline 12-ID-B: SAXS/WAXS beamline

X-ray Science Division, APS
Chemistry, Materials Science, Life Sciences, GeoScience, Polymer Science

Description

The 12-ID-B beamline dedicated to SAXS, simultaneous SAXS/WAXS, GISAXS, and TRSAXS for both solids and solutions. In situ experiments are facilitated with ancillary equipment including furnaces, gas and liquid flow systems, stop-flow, high pressure, and burners.  Horizontal and vertical mirrors with 2 sets of slits deliver photons higher than 1E12 in the size of beam about 200 (H) x 10(V) um^2.

Supported Techniques

  • Small-angle x-ray scattering
  • Grazing incidence small-angle scattering
  • Wide-angle x-ray scattering

Beamline Controls and Data Acquisition

12-ID-B uses Linux workstation running SPEC and EPICS applications. Data acquisition can be done as fast as 30 frames/second. At about 4m sample to detector distance, the q range is about 0.002 ~ 0.5 /A from SAXS detector and 0.7 ~ 2.6/A from WAXS detector that is off centered. Data reduction will be done automatically without requiring user interruption. Data viewer and analysis tools are built on Matlab or Igor frame.

Detectors

  • Pilatus 2M - SAXS
  • Pilatus 300K - WAXS

Additional Equipment

  • Temperature controlled flow cell
  • Linkam TMS600 Hotstage
  • Liquid Autosampler
  • Hamilton dispenser
