Beamline 11-BM-B: High-resolution/High-throughput Powder Diffractometer

X-ray Science Division, APS
Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics

Description

The 11-BM diffractometer has 12 analyzers and offers simultaneous high-speed (<= 1 hr) and high-resolution (<2 x 10-4 ΔQ/Q) data collection. Users can access the instrument via mail-in access or can submit proposals for on-site use.

Mail-in collection is performed with select scan conditions at a fixed energy (typically ~30 keV). Rapid access mail-in users are limited to 8 samples or 8 hours (1 shift).

Users may submit a standard (non-rapid access) proposal requesting beamtime for work that cannot be accomplished under the mail-in service.

Supported Techniques

  • Powder diffraction

Beamline Controls and Data Acquisition

EPICS/MEDM, plus Python based GUI interfaces

Detectors

  • Multiple Scintillators (LaCl3)

Additional Equipment

  • Cryostream (100-450 K)
  • Hot Air Blower (< 950 C) [on-site only]
