LOVE Controllers and APS Front Ends
The Front End components were described in module A-5 Functional Description of APS Front Ends. In that module, it was alluded to that there is an EPS fault signal associated with the water flow cooling various devices. The alarm is generated by the LOVE Controller which is monitoring that water flow. The alarm point is set by members of the Systems Interlock (SI) group. It is based upon mechanical information pertaining to the amount of heat that needs to be disapated by the components which are intercepting the x-ray beam. If water flow dips below the defined set point, a signal is sent to interrupt the beam to remove the source of heat from the component.
Interrupting Beam - Dumping the Storage Ring If a signal is received indicating that there is insufficient cooling to the following components which are upstream of the Slow Valve, the beam within the Storage Ring will be dumped:
| Fixed Mask 1 (FM1) Photon Shutter 1 (PS1) Beam Position Monitor 1 (BPM1)
Fixed Mask 2 (Sectors 4 and 32) |
Interrupting Beam - Dumping the User's Beam If a signal is received indicating that there is insufficient cooling to the following components which are downstream of the Slow Valve, the beam that is supplied to the specific beamline will be "dumped" by closing PS1:
| Photon Shutter 2 (PS2) Beam Position Monitor 2 (BPM2) Fixed Mask 2 (FM2)
Fixed Mask 3 or 4 (if present) |
