LOVE Controllers

The LOVE Controller
The LOVE Controller depicted here is typical of the controllers around the Storage Ring. They are used both in Front Ends and Beamlines. The data that is being monitored is in the form of Process Variables (PVs). Process Variables are read and displayed on EPICS screens. The PVs are also read by the PSS and EPS and are used to report information about the components that are monitored.
The LOVE Controllers have high and low set points. These set points are limits in which an alarm will trigger if the value of the given PV is either larger (for a high set point) or smaller (for a low set point). When a set point has been crossed the Alarm Lamp will light. If the LOVE Controller is set to latch, the Alarm lamp will stay lit until it is manually reset. A manual reset can be performed by pressing the INDEX and the DOWN ARROW simultaneously for five seconds. If the alarm does not reset, the conditions in which the fault occured are still present. At this point the AES Utilities Engineer would be consulted for guidance. There have been occassions where the Floor Coordinator is asked to reprogram the LOVE Controller. The Controller may only be reprogrammed under the direct instructions from the AES Utilities Engineer or other authority. This is to insure that no damage to any water cooled component occurs. The LOVE Controller ALARM set point may be reprogrammed by performing the following steps:
- Press the ENTER and the UP ARROW keys simultaneously for one second.
The word AUTO will appear in the display.
WARNING: Holding the keys for longer than 5 seconds will cause the Controller to enter a secure mode and "dump" the Controller output (the Storage Ring/beamline). Press INDEX until ALLo or ALHi is displayed Use arrow keys to adjust the value Press ENTER
- Press INDEX until the normal display appears

If the Set Variable is programmed, then press INDEX until the changed variable appears. Use the arrow keys to adjust the value and press the ENTER key. Afterwards, press INDEX until the normal display appears. If any programming changes are made to the LOVE Controller, record them on the Setpoint Sheet which is located in each PSS relay rack "xxID-AR-RR04".
