Instructions for Off Hours Group User Orientation

The following steps describe the process for the administration of APS User Orientation in the APS User Training Room located in Building 401, Room 1100. The key to the training room is located in the Experiment Operations Support Group main office.

Step 1 On any computer, open the desktop by typing in argonne as the password. Note: Passwords are not case sensitive.

Step 2 On the computer desktop, double click the Open Orientation icon and enter the required password manatee. Two programs will open: The first includes ESH100U and APS 101; the other is GERT. The first screen that comes up reads “Welcome to ANL User Training.” Click “Start.”

Step 3 Instruct the user to enter the information requested on the next screen.

Step 4 Instruct the user to select the appropriate training on the next screen. Note: Since Floor Coordinators will not be administering CNM User Training, the only selection should be APS. (The Refresher courses option is not appropriate at this time.)

Step 5 The user can opt to read the study guide for ESH100U and take the quiz or simply take the quiz. After the user has successfully passed the quiz, he or she will be presented with a similar screen for APS 101 with the same options.

Step 6 After ESH 100U and APS 101 have been completed, the opening screen for GERT will come up. To begin the GERT program, an administrator must enter a badge number to open the course. Until all of the Floor Coordinators can be authorized as GERT Administrators and assigned Administrator privileges and passwords by ESH-TR, you will need to use paper copies of the

Step 7 Send an e-mail to apsuser@aps.anl.gov listing the user and course(s) taken.

Step 8 Direct the user to return to the User Office when it opens the next day (or on Monday morning, if the training was taken on a weekend) to sign forms and receive his or her permanent badge and orientation packet.
