Machine Studies Utilizing Beamline Shutters
Studies requiring that beamline shutters (PS2) be open will not be
posted before they receive CAT beamline manager approval. Requests for shutter open
studies will be pre-approved in the following way:
- Karen Schroeder (ASD-OA) or her alternate will submit the request to Nena Moonier (AES-UES) at least one day before the schedule is officially posted. Bruno Fieramosca (AES-UES) will act as Nena's alternate.
- The request will be forwarded to the appropriate FC, who will then meet with the CAT representative to determine if the beamline is available at the times requested. If, for any reason, the shutter cannot be opened during that period, studies will not be scheduled. These studies have a direct relationship to the quality of the beam delivered, so it is in the best interest of the beamline involved to allow the studies to take place.
- A Commissioning Activity Approval (CAA) form will be created to cover the specific studies. An approved CAA
will be the permit that allows beamline shutter operation. An approved ESAF can alternately be the permit that allows the beamline shutter operation.
