POPAE – Protons On Protons And Electrons (conceptual design report and proposal - 1976)

POPAE was designed by a collaboration of Fermilab and Argonne accelerator teams.  The POPAE design envisioned a proton-proton collider with 1 TeV per beam. The Fermilab Tevatron, which was then in the early stages of construction, would be used as a 1TeV injector.  The POPAE project was terminated by a Fermilab decision to instead pursue an antiproton-proton collider.  In 1977, the DOE approved the construction of a 400 GeV per beam proton-proton collider (ISAbelle) at BNL.
