ATLAS Superconducting Linac (operation: 1978 - ongoing)

This accelerator is the world's first superconducting linac for ions.   Its total effective voltage is ~50 MV.  ATLAS is used to accelerate heavy ions for nuclear physics experiments.  ATLAS is a National Collaborative Research Facility for Nuclear Science, and as such is available for research by users from around the world.  The design report for the main ATLAS linac was completed in 1978, and that for the positive ion injector upgrade in 1986.
