Areas of Research Interest
My research interests include time-resolved imaging of particle or photon beams using a variety of interaction mechanisms such as optical/x-ray synchrotron radiation (OSR/XSR), optical transition radiation (OTR), optical diffraction radiation (ODR), undulator radiation, and the free-electron laser (FEL) radiation process. In some cases both incoherent and coherent aspects of the radiation have been utilized in one way or another to measure a beam parameter. I am currently involved in experiments on the Fermilab A0 photoinjector using a synchroscan streak camera to measure drive laser bunch lengths directly and e-beam bunch lengths via OTR, on the JLAB CEBAF transport line A using ODR as a nonintercepting beam-size monitor, and on the APS linac looking at enhanced/coherent OTR processes following bunch compression. Some of these techniques have displayed the dynamics of beam instabilities elucidating the physics and/or have relevance to proposed accelerator projects such as the ILC, high-energy ERLs, and XFELs.Selected List of Publications
