Areas of Research Interest
Free-electron laser (FEL) theory and design, Undulator development, Beam dynamics in Photocathode gun, Smith-Purcell FELs.
My current interest is in developing self-consistent three-dimensional theory of Smith-Purcell FELs. In a Smith-Purcell FEL, the electron beam interacts with the co-propagating surface electromagnetic mode supported by the reflection grating. In collaboration with Kwang-Je Kim, I have developed a one-dimensional theory of interaction of surface mode with the electron beam and included the effects due to attenuation of surface mode (due to finite conductivity of grating material) and the effect of end reflection etc. I am currently developing a three-dimensional theory, which will include diffraction effects. In addition to work on Smith-Purcell FELs, I also work on high gain FEL theory and simulation, low gain FEL oscillator simulation, undulator development and beam dynamics in photocathode gun.Selected List of Publications
